Early Life
Born on January 5, 1931, into the family of lawyer and Indian independence activist D. Srinivasan and Rajalakshmi, He was the eldest among his siblings. Notably they shared a significant age gap of more than two decades with his youngest brother, Kamal Haasan.
His early education took an unconventional turn due to an accident. It prevented him from attending regular school for several initial years. Instead, he received tutoring at home, gaining a primary education before directly entering the fifth grade at the age of nine.
In 1949, he enrolled at the Raja Lakhamgouda Law College in Belgaum, completing his legal studies. After that, he was officially qualifying as a lawyer in 1951. For three decades, from 1951 to 1981, His pursued a career in law, handling numerous prominent cases. The cases include his representation of U. Muthuramalingam Thevar in the Immanuel Sekaran murder case. Throughout this tenure, he found inspiration in the rationalist philosophy of Periyar E. V. Ramasamy. To this extent, Periyar considered Charu hasan as his disciple, referring to him as his “sishyan.”
