Emily came from a poor family, finished her education, and led a fairly typical life. It was her strong love of writing and reading that first drew him to her. Bose, who was immersed in literary pursuits at the time, recognized her talents as an advantage to his work, and their professional relationship ultimately grew into a deep love.

In 1937, they secretly married according to Hindu traditions, keeping their marriage a closely kept secret with no close family or friends in attendance. Surprisingly, their union went undocumented. Emily chose not to accompany Bose back to India after his Indian Civil Service stint and remained overseas. They met when Bose traveled to Germany, where they continued their relationship.

Political Career

Subhash Chandra Bose’s association with the Indian National Congress is highlighted by his participation in the Non-Cooperation Movement, which was launched by Mahatma Gandhi and grew into a formidable nonviolent movement. Following that, he devoted himself to the Bengal Congress as a youth organizer and volunteer commander, as well as founding the prominent publication “Swaraj.” After being released from prison in 1927, the leader was appointed general secretary of the Congress party. After joining the Congress party, he became involved in the fight for India’s independence with Jawaharlal Nehru.

Surprisingly, he even assumed the post of Mayor of Calcutta while imprisoned. His voyage was then marked by a succession of arrests and releases on suspicion of links to revolutionary organizations. His release was eventually granted on medical grounds.

Subhash Chandra Bose established a national planning committee and advocated for an ambitious industrialization agenda after being elected President of the Indian National Congress in 1938.

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose escaped from home detention in India in 1941, going to considerable measures to disguise his identity. Under his command, these men formed the Indian Legion, accumulating a force of around 4,500 soldiers.

During his tenure in Germany in 1942, the Indian Legion, along with members from the Special Bureau for India in Berlin, conferred the title “Netaji” on Bose. In the face of difficulties and setbacks in Germany, Subhash Chandra Bose made the critical choice to leave for Japan in 1943.

The Japanese government was not previously considered as a natural ally within the Indian nationalist movement. It was seen as a source of compassion for the countries that had borne the brunt of Japan’s military expansion. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, on the other hand, had a different viewpoint.

He believed that a combination of the Japanese-backed Azad Hind Fauj and a home movement could end British authority in India. The Azad Hind Fauj, famous for its “Delhi Chalo” slogan and salute, served as a source of inspiration for Indians both inside and beyond the country.

Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti, commemorated on January 23rd each year, is an important homage to commemorate his extraordinary achievements to the nation. Netaji was born on this day in Cuttack, Odisha. The day, officially known as ‘Parakram Diwas,’ is a celebration of daring and valor, both of which Subhash Chandra Bose demonstrated throughout his life.

Last year, India’s Prime Minister dedicated a magnificent statue of Netaji at Kartavya Path, emphasizing the nation’s recognition of his legacy. On Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti, students, educators, government officials, and politicians from all parties gather together to honor this legendary person.
